Crash landing why so calm? They taught you to get through it all In the moment we're all going down You guide us safe and sound Three minutes is all that you get Before you have to regret All the phone calls and letters you didn't send All the clothes and the problems you couldn't mend Unable to fail When we took off on this flight We never envisioned our plight We made a sacrifice As birds do when we fly And we the standers by So helpless unable to try We got our boats and blankets nye Cuz we refused to fail We refused to fail Unable to fail Unable to fail As birds do Unable to fail Unable to fail Oooh Oooh etc... Crash landing why so calm?

You could be standing right next to me but still put walls between us when we sleep Squeeze the sponge extinguish love from a distance and cover up your eyes no more vision You already know too much Why'd we try to open up? Ahh ohh Ah oh Ahhhh Ahh ohh Broke the bail and found that sailing out to sea without a vest can be such a nightmare The sun is hot and not afraid to burn in front of friends who fight to fend them off You already know too much Why'd we try to open up? Working on the line too long Puttin' out the fire before it's gone Ahh ohh Ah oh Ahhhh Ahh ohh You already know too much Why'd we try to open up Working on the line too long Puttin' out the fire before it's gone

You think it's all green A life that you've seldom seen And all of those missed opportunities Where does it go when it never begins? Show me what you are What was it that got you this far? It's not just a game In the end the struggle's just the same Winter's cold and lonely When you find your life stripped down to the bone All we know all we see all we really have Is our own Could it be jealousy? A bed for your anger and blame? Is it just fantasy? Some kind of bitter un-ending disease Winter's cold and lonely When you find your life stripped down to the bone All we know all we see all we really have Is our own Winter's cold and lonely When you find your life stripped down to the bone All we know all we see all we really have Is our own

Smoke soaked into the floors (Boxes boxes bottles and boxes, rails and tracks and trippin' foxes) Haven't we been here before? (Sleep sleep distant sleep spring the morning spirit seep) Someone told me we should stay away Now my neighbor has come back this way Doesn't matter anymore what we say to the kids they're gonna do it anyway Ooooh anyway Smoke soaked into the floors (Boxes boxes bottles and boxes, rails and tracks and trippin' foxes) Haven't we been here before? (Sleep sleep distant sleep spring the morning spirit seep) Someone told me we should stay away Now my neighbor has come back this way Doesn't matter anymore what we say to the kids they're gonna do it anyway Ooooh anyway It's not the way that it should be It's not the way for you and me It's not the way that it should be It's not the way It's not the way that it should be It's not the way for you and me It's not the way that it should be It's not the way It's not the way that it should be It's not the way for you and me It's not the way that it should be It's not the way It's not the way that it should be It's not the way for you and me It's not the way that it should be It's not the way It's not the way that it should be It's not the way for you and me It's not the way that it should be It's not the way It's not the way that it should be It's not the way for you and me It's not the way that it should be It's not the way It's not the way It's not the way Oooooooh Oooooooh Oooooooh Oooooooh

Where do you want to be? (Desire is a permanent stain) What would you like to see? (Your life is a mighty decision) It's all around us all around us Won't you come out of the darkness and into my arms? There's no need to fear we'll be waiting here Out of the darkness and into the light The sun is rising soon step out of the night Come out come out come out come out wherever you are (Won't you come out?) Come out come out come out come out wherever you are (Wherever you are) Come out come out come out come out wherever you are Won't you come out? Ehhh ooohh What is truth that you seek? (How do we do what matters?) What do we tolerate? (How do we find our vision) It's all within us all within us Won't you come out of the darkness and into my arms? There's no need to fear we'll be waiting here Out of the darkness and into the light The sun is rising soon step out of the night Come out come out come out come out wherever you are (Won't you come out?) Come out come out come out come out wherever you are (Wherever you are) Come out come out come out come out wherever you are Won't you come out? Eehhh ooohh

A fly on the wall All eyes open wide Does he know it all? Drifting out of time Searching for a sign Sun and snow will fall Ahhh Re-incarnation Once was here can live again We want invention Driving toward the days ahead Never getting old Quest for minors gold No end in sight It's all in the song Live with blinders on Reflection bending light of our vision Re-incarnation Once was here can live again We want invention Driving toward the days ahead There's no time that I've already wasted My life's unwinding I can not replace it at all (Holding on too strong) A farmer plants his seed of shattered dreams of second chances lost below (There's no end to possibilities) Re-incarnation Once was here can live again We want invention Driving toward the days ahead Driving toward the days ahead Driving toward the days ahead

Do I give it away? Do I keep it locked up? Do I give it away? Do I keep it locked up? I see you in the pages of a magazine You are so beautiful so neat and so clean The lines of your body I'd like to caress I'm such an addict I must confess Do I give it away? Do I keep it locked up? Do I give it away? Do I keep it locked up? Now I have you in my arms The chase if over you've lost your charm I need more than you to fill my heart Don't know how I could go back to start Do I give it away? Do I keep it locked up? Do I give it away? Do I keep it locked up? Cuz ya never know when you might need it Cuz ya never know when you might need it Cuz ya never know Never know Never know When you might need it It's good to have around

Bags have been packed since late last night My suit is pressed and my shirt is white I've got a non stop one way flight And I'm going home The last few weeks have been a blast Seems like twenty years have passed Our flags are flying at half mast And now I'm going home I'm going home I'm going home Now you can leave me alone I'm going home Now I'm sitting here wringing my hands Remember when I was on that stand The trumpets were blasting from that marching band Now I'm going home Mountains fall and oceans rise Babies are born and old men die But I'll keep being that same old guy And now I'm going home I'm going home I'm going home Now you can leave me alone I'm going home All my friends back home are mad So are my brothers so is dad I don't think I did that bad Now I'm going home No one wants to be here with me Everyone spits and sneers at me And y'all never had that beer with me Now I'm going home I'm going home I'm going home Now you can leave me alone I'm going He's going home He's going home Now he can leave us alone He's going home

How can a man you can't even stand want to keep on hangin' around? Thinks he's moving toward something he needs but still hasn't found Living lies through others eyes no world of his own Can't compromise but he still tries though he doesn't want to be alone You deserve more Haven't found what you're lookin' for Just turn around And find a new direction This is a lesson 'bout a vicious regression that won't allow you to grow Sometimes it's hard to get rid of your obsession when you know you gotta let it go You deserve more Haven't found what you're lookin' for Just turn around And find a new direction Oh but it's not too late You can have all you want and more So try not to hesitate You deserve what you've been striving for You deserve more Haven't found what you're lookin' for Just turn around And find a new direction

about

Created over a year and a half Chris Shaw wrote and recorded 10 songs with 10 songwriters from Columbus Ohio. The album is mainly acoustic in nature featuring acoustic guitar, resonator guitar, fiddle, mandolin, marimba, upright bass, cello, and lap steel guitar with lots of reverb (pretty much the only electric instrument on the album). Songs were all extremely collaborative and were recorded at Jay Alton's house in Clintonville, Ohio. Jay plays on one of the songs as well. He is awesome check him out at JayAlton.com. "This was an amazing adventure and will probably result in a volume two at some point" says Chris.
